Georgia Southern Faculty Receive Special Citation from ICSA

Dr. Lili Yu, biostatics professor and Ruth Whitworth, information technology/systems coordinator and webmaster in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) were awarded a Special Citation by the President of the International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) in recognition of their contributions to the growth of the ICSA. 

Yu joined the JPHCOPH as an assistant professor in 2007, after obtaining her Ph.D. in biostatistics from Ohio State University. Yu’s area of research is mainly focused on survival analysis. She works on semiparametric linear models for heteroscedastic survival data in various aspects. Recently, she is also interested in logistic regressions for categorical data with missing values.

Yu serves as the faculty advisor of the office of ICSA, which is incubated in the JPHCOPH. In addition to advising students on the office’s daily work, Yu communicates with different committees in ICSA and provides assistance for the local committees for each ICSA symposium. She currently serves as chair of the ICSA Archive Committee. Yu has been a reviewer for the Jiann-Ping Hsu Pharmaceutical and Regulatory Sciences Student Paper Award at the ICSA symposium for several years and also serves as a member of the Student Award Committee for the 2013 ICSA/ISBS Symposium. 

Whitworth joined the JPHCOPH as an academic professional in 2004.  She is the College webmaster and also serves as the liaison between the JPHCOPH and IT Services. Whitworth earned an MPH in biostatistics from Georgia Southern and an MBA from the University of Memphis.  She has worked with Dr. Karl Peace on the Biopharmaceutical Applied Statistics Symposium (BASS) as a webmaster/registrar since 2004 and has also helped with the ICSA server since 2007.
