Arabic Club Hosts Arab-American Poet and Author during International Education Week

As part of International Education Week Nov. 11 - 16, the Georgia Southern University Arabic Club in partnership with the Center for International Studies and the Campus Life Enrichment Committee is hosting Mohja Kahf, an Arab-American poet and author on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. in the Russell Union Ballroom.

Kahf will speak on the topic, “Women in Non-Violent Peace Movements in Syria.” Author of the poetry collection “Emails from Scheherazad (2003)” and the novel "The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf (2006),” she co-writes a column on sexuality for the website, MuslimsWakeUp.com. Her non-fiction work includes “Western Representation of the Muslim Woman: From Termagant to Odalisque (1999).”

Kafh received her Ph.D. in comparative literature from Rutgers University and is currently an associate professor of comparative literature and faculty member of the King Fahd Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

The event is public and there is no charge to attend. Attendance verification will be provided.
