Students Surprise Southern Express Bus Drivers with Small Tokens of Appreciation

During the holiday season, Georgia Southern University’s Auxiliary Service’s Parking & Transportation received an unexpected gift of thanks. Organized by student Alysia Marion, thirty students, faculty, staff and members of the Statesboro community contributed to a bus driver appreciation fund used to purchase each driver a small Christmas gift.

“For four years, I’ve ridden the bus to and from class. The transit system is not just important to me, but to every student who uses it,” said Marion. “Every day we ride the bus, and know we are safe. It is comforting to be in good-hands.”

Forty gifts were distributed, each a small token of thanks. Kristi Bryant, director of Parking & Transportation, was touched by the thoughtfulness and spirit of giving. “Marion and friends raised money throughout fall semester to purchase forty gift cards and holiday treats,” noted Bryant. “At times, our drivers and staff go unrecognized for their hard work. It is great for them to be recognized by those they serve.”

Every day Parking & Transportation serves over 15,000 passengers, and an annual ridership topping 2.2 million passengers.  The bus fleet, operated by First Transit - Georgia Southern University, is comprised of twelve buses servicing three different routes to provide convenient transportation.
