Retirees Recognition Ceremony Honors 48 Longtime Faculty and Staff

Forty eight faculty and staff members were honored today at Georgia Southern University's Annual Retirees Recognition Ceremony.  The event honors those who retired after the 2013 ceremony, and those who have announced their retirement in 2014. Among those honored was Clara Krug, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Foreign Languages. A faculty member since 1978, Krug was the longest reigning retiree at the event. When asked what she enjoyed most, she said, “The teaching especially and all the students and different classes.”  She recalled how things have changed during her 36 years at Georgia Southern. “When I first came here, there was no football, no one paid for parking and homecoming was in February centered around basketball,” she said. “Technology basically did not exist and we were on the quarter system, so we started in September and ended in June. The place was much smaller.”

  In addition, Betty Jo Robbins, custodian II and team leader in the Physical Plant -Custodial Services department, said “I loved working with my people because I didn’t have to turn them over. If they did wrong, we sat down and talked it out because everybody needed their jobs.” Robbins served as a staff member for 12 years. Active in her church and the community, she says she is looking forward to “Doing God’s will and helping everybody she can” in her retirement.
