Georgia Southern to be featured on ‘Anglers & Appetites’

Georgia Southern University will be featured on the show “Anglers & Appetites” on FOX Sports South Wednesday, April 9 at 8 a.m. and Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 a.m. The television program, which showcases unique fishing spots and cuisine specific to certain areas, visited Statesboro last fall and stopped by Georgia Southern to visit the Center for Wildlife Education and Lamar Q Ball, Jr. Raptor Center and Allen E. Paulson Stadium during the homecoming game in November.

“I’ve visited the Center for Wildlife Education before, and I think what Director Steve Hein is doing there is amazing. We held one of the giant snakes, and Steve introduced us to Freedom, who of course is the greatest angler of us all. It’s also just amazing to walk down the boardwalk and see a majestic bald eagle staring down at you,” said show co-host David Zelski, referring to the Center’s bald eagle, Glory. “You never get to see birds of prey up close like that, so it was a great opportunity to do that.”    While in Statesboro, Zelski and co-host Phil Proctor spent some time fishing on the Ogeechee River and at local hunting and fishing spot Blackwater Preserve. Zelski added they had a southern fish fry with the owners and chefs at 40 East Grill in downtown Statesboro.

“Everyone loves to eat, many people love to fish, and we like to find places that aren’t as obvious--so that’s just another great reason to go to Statesboro,” said Zelski. “You’ve got the football, the Wildlife Center, great fishing, great entertainment and we just had so much fun. By the time I left, I felt like I had made a bunch of new friends.”

The show will air in seven southeastern states including Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. The show will also be available at www.anglersandappetites.com and on iTunes.
