Georgia Southern University Cheerleaders Among Top Performers at National Competition
The Georgia Southern University All-Girl Cheerleading Squad earned a fourth National Title during the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 9 -13. In addition, the Co-Ed Cheerleading Squad finished second overall. Led by Chloe Cotter, a junior mathematics major from Lawrenceville, Ga., and Emily Harwood, a junior special education major from Sugar Hill, Ga., the All-Girl Cheerleading Squad secured their fourth national championship in the last seven years during the competition, finishing ahead of teams from Penn State, West Virginia University, Ohio State and the University of Georgia among others. "It's definitely a very good felling," said Cotter. "I am so incredibly proud of this group. No one wanted to leave Daytona without that title and that's a very exciting and fun group to lead." In just three weeks, tryouts for the 2014 squad will take place and Cotter says she couldn't be more excited. "It all starts back up again as we get ready for football season. We're going to have that special bond and already be a strong group," she said. The Co-Ed squad, led by senior Carla Metts, communications studies major from Dublin, Ga., finished second in the competition behind the University of Michigan. The squad started the final day of competition in fifth, but moved up to finish ahead of teams from Middle Tennessee State University, University of Texas at El Paso, Kent State University and the University of Missouri.
