Auxiliary Services Making Changes to Meet Campus Needs
The Division of Auxiliary Services is doing some rearranging this summer, closing various eateries on campus and relocating service stores to meet the needs of a growing Georgia Southern community. You may have noticed the construction taking place at the intersection of Forest Drive and Georgia Avenue. Formerly Cold Stone Creamery and Einstein Bros. Bagels, these locations closed on May 1 to begin making room for the University Computer Store, currently located in the Information Technology (IT) building. The location provides prime on-campus real estate directly across from Dining Commons and Russell Union. “By relocating the University Computer Store, we felt we could offer better services to the Georgia Southern community,” said Eddie Mills, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services. “We’re going to create some excitement in that space with storefront products, product tests and sidewalk events with our vendors.” Starting in August, students, faculty and staff can expect to shop for iPhone accessories, laptops, Apple and Android products, cases, book bags, fitness accessories and GPS devices like Garmin and TomTom. “If it’s technology, we’re probably going to give it a try,” said Mills. The University Computer Store is the only certified Apple store in the area. Other changes taking place this summer include the closing of Talons Grille in Russell Union. In its place, Market at Centennial Place, a convenience store where students can stock up on groceries or grab a quick snack, will move from the first floor of the freshmen dorm to a more centralized location for everyone on campus. As for the current location of the University Computer Store in the IT Building, plans are in place to bring another quick food locale to campus. Mills stated they're weighing the options, after a recent survey revealed students would prefer a doughnut shop or taco stand featuring Mexican food.
