Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony Honors 177 Employees

From left: Harvey Billups, Ashlea Anderson, Amanda Catron, Sonya Chance, Patricia Eason, Meg Heins, Alicia Spence and Lori Wiggins.[/caption] Georgia Southern University honored 177 staff members celebrating 1,977 years of continuous, full-time service at the University’s 2015 Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony recently at the Performing Arts Center. During the event, eight employees were announced as Award of Merit recipients:
  • Ashlea Anderson, Center for Academic Technology Support
  • Harvey Billups, Custodial Services
  • Amanda Catron, Rural Health & Research Office
  • Sonya Chance, Center for Academic Technology Support
  • Patricia Eason, Custodial Services
  • Meg Heins, Residence Life
  • Alicia Spence, First-Year Experience
  • Lori Wiggins, The Center for Teaching and Learning
Award of Merit nominees are employees who have improved the work environment, exhibited excellent customer service and shown true character and dedication to Georgia Southern’s mission. A total of 49 employees were nominated for the award, which is sponsored by Georgia Southern’s Staff Council. Award of Merit recipients are nominated by co-workers or supervisors and are chosen by The Staff Council. Winners each receive $1,000, a Georgia Southern Eagle Medallion or plaque and a certificate of appreciation. Years of Service Award recipients each receive a certificate of appreciation and a gift from The University Store. Williams, an employee who works in Landscape Services was honored for 40 years of service. Landscape Maintenance, a division of Facility Services,  is comprised of the landscape maintenance crews and the small engine repair shop. The landscape maintenance crew is in charge of maintaining the campus grounds, including mowing grass and picking up trash. They service over 150 different pieces of equipment and perform tasks such as engine tune up and overhaul, steel welding and responding to emergency field service calls. Years of Service Award honorees also included those with five to 30 years of service. Georgia Southern employs more than 2,000 staff members and the Staff Council is a collective voice for those who work in non-faculty employee roles. The Council supports a variety of activities and initiatives to improve the quality of life and effectiveness of the University's dedicated and valuable staff, and hosts the Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony each year.
