Georgia Southern Celebrates Week of the Young Child™

Week of the Young Child LogoGeorgia Southern’s Child Development Center (CDC) will celebrate the annual Week of the Young Child™ April 13-17 with special events and activities for children and their families. The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. The purpose of this week of events is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs, such as those provided at Georgia Southern. On Monday, April 13, the CDC will present a parade at 10:30 a.m. from the CDC building on Forest Drive around Sweetheart Circle. Once there, University Provost Jean Bartels, Ph.D., will read a story for the children. Parents and community members are encouraged to come and celebrate our children. On Tuesday, April 14, at 9 a.m., the CDC will celebrate Literacy Day with the preschool and toddler classes at the center, and on Wednesday, April 15, at noon, children will enjoy a picnic on Sweetheart Circle with parents and other participants. On Thursday, April 16, the children will travel up the street to the Georgia Southern Center for Wildlife Education, where they’ll see a range of animals and visit the Lamar Q Ball Raptor Center, home of Georgia Southern’s eagles, Freedom, Glory, Franklin and Phoenix. The activities will conclude on Friday, April 17, with a Field Day on the CDC playgrounds from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Parents and friends are invited to attend the week’s events.
