‘A Day for Southern’ Campus Campaign Kicks Off This Week

ADFS_Slide_DATE Georgia Southern’s annual ‘A Day for Southern’ on-campus campaign kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 20, and gives faculty and staff a chance to give back to the University. Gloria Goosby, director of annual giving at Georgia Southern, says fundraising efforts last year netted $246,463 from 54 percent of the faculty and staff, and she hopes to exceed 60 percent participation this year. In addition to helping the University function in the face of shrinking state budgets, Goosby says on-campus participation encourages others to give. “Faculty and staff participation rates are often used by corporations and foundations to determine their willingness to contribute to the University,” she said. “Additionally, gift officers who work on behalf of the Foundation can use faculty staff participation rates as a part of the case for support to alumni on the importance of giving and the commitment of the campus community to the missions of their respective areas.” Leading the fundraising efforts on campus this year are Robert Meguiar, training coordinator in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, who serves as the staff co-chair; and Lissa Leege, director of the Center for Sustainability, who serves as the faculty co-chair. The co-chairs will challenge the campus community to give to their areas of interest in the University, as any gifts of any amount will help. Goosby says no matter what or where faculty and staff choose to give, the focus of giving is the future of Georgia Southern. “The important thing to remember when considering participation in this campaign is one's commitment to students and the future of this University,” said Goosby. “Each faculty and staff member, no matter their role or position, shapes the identity of our campus community. Our daily work provides a fertile environment for students as they grow and mature into future scientists, educators, civic leaders, artists, nurses, entrepreneur - nearly every profession under the sun. “Making a gift during ‘A Day for Southern’ is just one more EASY way we can give to our students.” Donors can give via pledge card or payroll deduction, or by donating online at the ‘A Day for Southern’ website.
