Learn more about your benefits at the eighth annual Benefits Fair

The Department of Human Resources will present the eighth annual Benefits Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center. The yearly event will feature door prizes and giveaways for attendants, and the first 400 employees to arrive at the fair will be able to purchase a four-inch sub, chips and drink for only one dollar. The first 400 employees to complete and submit the HR Super Hero vendor card will receive a free t-shirt. More importantly, the event will feature over 50 vendors such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, CVS Caremark, Delta Dental, Minnesota Life, EyeMed, US Bank, TIAA-CREF, VALIC, Fidelity, TRS and more. Vendor representatives will be on hand to answer your questions about benefits and other financial services, and will also offer various free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, chiropractic spinal screenings, oral cancer screenings and skin cancer screenings, as well as foot pressure mapping and gait analysis. Georgia Southern University Health Services is sponsoring a flu vaccination clinic at the fair from 10 a.m. to noon in the Performing Arts Center lobby. Flu shots are $10 each for faculty and staff with a valid Eagle ID card. Representatives from the St. Joseph’s/Candler Mammography Unit will be on hand as well to offer mammograms on the “screen machine,” a safe and confidential screening that accepts most insurance plans. To schedule an appointment, call 912-819-6800. Also at the fair this year is Operation Medication Drop sponsored by Georgia Southern University Public Safety. The program accepts unwanted prescription or non-prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, creams, ointments, lotions and inhalers, as well as pet medications. The program cannot accept sharps, needles, lancets, syringes, medical waste products (such as used IV bags, bandages, gowns or bio-hazard waste materials) and no products containing mercury or cadmium (including thermometers and hearing aids).
