Jason Hoelscher continues Great Minds Lecture Series on March 8

Jason Hoelscher, M.F.A., continues Georgia Southern’s Great Minds Lecture Series with a presentation on “Art, Information, and Complexity,” Tuesday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the Fielding S. Russell Union, room 2048. Hoelscher’s lecture will highlight how one’s understanding of art changes when considered through the lens of high-tech communication media. Hoelscher joined the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in the fall of 2015 as an assistant professor and the gallery director. He received his M.F.A. in painting from the Pratt Institute and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in art theory and aesthetics from the Institute for Doctoral Students in the Visual Arts. His research focuses on how works of art, whether traditional or experimental, communicate in this communication-rich, high-tech information age. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally at venues in Denver, New York, Berlin, Hong Kong, Marfa and Paris while publishing widely as an arts writer, theorist and critic. The Great Minds Lecture Series will continue with presentations on March 22 by Juanjuan Peng, Ph.D., from the department of history, and on April 27 by Jacek Lubecki, Ph.D., from the department of political science and international studies. For more information on the Series contact Barrett Gilham, director of communications and outreach for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), at bgilham@georgiasouthern.edu or 912-478-8597.
