Office of External Affairs
The Office of External Affairs fosters connections to the programs, services and networks that support innovation and economic growth, both within and outside the University — and throughout the state and region. The office also advocates for the University at federal, state and local levels as well as advises and educates faculty, staff and students regarding University diplomatic protocol and special event policies.
The office’s economic development activities are designed to actively engage corporations and industries to provide expertise and business solutions in today’s knowledge-driven economy. The University and our faculty researchers and scholars are uniquely positioned to provide superior expertise and services to support the diverse needs of industry partners. The office serves faculty, student, alumni, corporate and community partners by fostering connections to the programs, services, and networks that support innovation and economic growth, both within and outside the University. We welcome the opportunity to discuss collaborative research and scholarship pursuits that can advance the mission of Georgia Southern University while also advancing corporate strategies.
Governmental relations efforts include monitoring legislation related to higher education, working with legislators and their staff to influence public policy, and increasing awareness of the University’s research and educational programs and their impact on the region and state. Our mission is to favorably position Georgia Southern University among all levels of government for opportunities to secure public support through appropriations that foster fiscal sustainability and build programs to promote academic excellence, research activity, economic development, and recognition as one of the best public doctoral research universities in the country.
The office also oversees a variety of community engagement efforts that provide dynamic and creative opportunities for academic, institutional, civic, business and community-support stakeholders to come together.
Additionally, we advise and educate faculty, staff and students regarding University diplomatic protocol and special event policies.
