Winners of the Fall 2011 Sea Island Bank Business Plan Competition

Our Fall 2011 MGNT 4236 New Venture Planning venture panels and business plan competition were held on Wednesday 30th November.  The business plan competition is sponsored by Sea Island Bank and it was held in their formal board room from 4:00-9:00pm.  Five teams presented and they were competing for the top honor and prizes.  Judges graded the students’: two page executive summary; their 15 minute presentation; and, their 30 minute interview.  The venture panels were a great success and once again Sea Island Bank was a perfect host.

The first team to present included: Chelsea-Armstrong-Mitchell, Armonde Blake, Johnny Danley and Scott Tharpe.  The team proposed their business Mealin and Wheelin, which was a Statesboro based food truck catering to students and blue collar workers.  The judges were complimentary about the idea and thought it had much merit and felt the team interviewed well.

Next up were Dash.com presented by Ramelro Crawford, Lauren Herrington, Brian Kirkland and Sasha McCullough.  Dash.com was, “looking to break into the household goods market by providing a convenient online shopping and delivery service”.   The judges very much enjoyed the team’s presentation which was extremely professional and well delivered.

The third group to present was Reboot.  Taking a slightly different approach this team presented their business plan consultancy project assisting one of our E-Zone members, Rob Wilkerson.  Reboot is a PC Optimization firm that is located in the E-Zone.  The team included: James Ball, Daniel Blanton, James (Jimmer) Fitzgerald, Christina Hodge and Scott Martin.  This team’s two page executive summary was highlighted by the judges and the team performed well in the interview.

The fourth group to present was Cake on the Rocks and it was presented by Brittanie Barber, Adam Burgamy, Amber Finley and Bo-Anthony Venturi.  Cake on the Rocks was designed to,“transform the consumers’ image of sugary, sweet ‘girlie’ cupcake into that of an adult pleasure paired with wine selections, domestic and imported beers and specialty cocktails”.  This team’s product samples were a hit with the judges and were timed to perfection (8:00pm).  The judges, however, were most impressed with the team’s presentation and interview performance.

Last to present were War Zone Paintball a “facility seeking to provide the residents of Metropolitan Columbus, Georgia with a unique experience in a safe environment”.  War Zone Paintball was presented by Jennifer Lumia, Chan Miller, Igor Mundabi and Samuel Smith.  The judges were incredibly impressed with the team’s effort to demonstrate their business and in particular their method of introducing the business and model of the facility.  The judges were also particularly pleassed with this team’s two-page executive summary and interview.

…….AND the WINNERS are CAKE ON THE ROCKS who are now the proud owners of four Sea Island Bank easy chairs and take away the honor of calling themselves the Fall 2011 Sea Island Bank Business Plan competition winners.

Thank you to the judges: Brandon Blair (180 Fitness); Jackie Hinton (Heavenly Ham); and, Danny Key (Dabbs, Hickman, Hill & Cannon LLC).  We would also like to thank Sea Island Bank and Dabbs, Hickman, Hill and Cannon LLC for their sponsorship and involvement in this class.
