Enterprise and Small Business: Principles, Practice and Policy
The 3rd edition of Enterprise and Small Business: Principles, Practice and Policy one of the leading textbooks in entrepreneurship and small business management in the UK has just been published. The new version of the book, edited by Sara Carter and Dylan Jones-Evans, features as its first chapter work by Dr. Luke Pittaway that explains the evolution of entrepreneurship theory from the very first professors of economics to the present day. The book is now available from Amazon (click here).
The chapter presents and explains the development of entrepreneurship theory over time. Although the subject of entrepreneurship is often considered to be relatively new the historical roots can be linked back to the early economic thinkers of the 18th Century and so the chapter starts by explaining these economic roots, exploring some of the early thinking and the different ways in which entrepreneurship was considered to be important. It then introduces theory from the middle of the 20th Century and considers psychological, sociological and behavioral issues. Finally, the chapter explores contemporary theories and thinking and in this part it maps out the different forms theory has taken.
