Water is necessary for healthy communities, dynamic economies, and sustainable natural resources. Increasing water demand, aging infrastructure, and rising sea levels challenge growth. The IWH supports resiliency by providing scientific expertise and technology where and when it is needed most.

The Institute is a research, education, and outreach unit, fostering collaboration among academia, industry, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Our convergent approach addresses current and future challenges in the water and health nexus while providing sustainable solutions to support economical growth.

The IWH will be a leader in water research, driving positive change in Georgia and beyond.

The institute has a unique position to seek feasible solutions for many globally relevant water challenges that have economical, ecological, and sociological connections. Established researchers in the field bring their expertise to develop innovative approaches in science, technology, and engineering to meet water resource growth needs, while training the next-generation workforce with the necessary skill sets to be competitive globally.

Public Impact

IWH’s mission is in alignment with Georgia Southern’s mission and vision as a Public Impact Research University, providing transformative research and learning experiences to the communities we serve. With the unique background and expertise of Georgia Southern faculty and external collaborators, the institute is ready to expand its research portfolio beyond Georgia.
