The GACE Paraprofessional Assessment (Test Code 177) is for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals and measures skills and knowledge in reading, math, and writing as well as the ability to apply those skills and knowledge to assist in classroom instruction for public K-12 education.


Schedule & Payment

The GACE ParaPro Exam is offered by appointment Monday – Friday between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, based on availability. To schedule an appointment, you must call 912-478-5415 or email testing@georgiasouthern.edu, to schedule your testing date and time.


Two-Part Payment

Proctoring Fee: After scheduling your appointment, credit cards, debit cards or web checks can be accepted for the proctoring fee at the Office of Testing Services Marketplace. Select the icon GACE ParaPro Exam, then the correct campus.

Exam fee: The tester is required to bring a credit card to purchase the assessment once you arrive at the Testing Office through the GACE Paraprofessional site. The exam fee is $38.00.


Test Structure & Preparation

The test consists of 90 selected-response questions and is timed for 2 1/2 hours. Scratch paper and pencils are provided. Remember to prepare for the exam utilizing the materials on the GACE website.

You cannot retest within 28 days. If you attempt to retest within the 28 day waiting period, you will forfeit your test fee.

You can view and print your unofficial scores at the end of the test. official scores reports are mailed approximately one week after the test date. Scores are also reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Your official score report provides your passing status.


Who is this exam for?

Paraprofessional serving in an instructional capacity is required by law to:

  • hold at least an associate of arts degree, or
  • have completed two years of college coursework (60 semester hours), or
  • demonstrated through a state or local academic assessment that they are knowledgeable in reading, writing, and math and are capable of assisting in classroom instruction.

Testing Requirements

You must bring valid identification (unexpired), original, and include your full legal name, a recent photo, and signature. Acceptable IDs include passport, government-issued driver’s license, state ID, or military ID. See the GACE Paraprofessional website for specific requirements, including acceptable and unacceptable IDs.
