Georgia Southern University Now Offers Their Eagle Card on iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android Phones

With Eagle Card Mobile ID, students can get around campus with just a tap of their device at campus readers

SAVANNAH, GA, Oct. 6, 2022 — Georgia Southern University students can now add their Eagle Card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay and use their iPhones, Apple Watches, or Android phones to conveniently, safely, and securely access campus buildings, purchase meals, and more.

With mobile IDs, students can complete any action that would have previously required a physical ID card — both on and off campus — with just their iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android phone.  Students simply place their devices near a reader to enter dorms, libraries, and fitness centers, buy lunch, make purchases at campus stores, and more.

The move from physical cards to a contactless Eagle Card on iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android phones allows for transactions that are safe, convenient, and highly secure; and helps students avoid touching the readers or handing their ID cards to someone else. Georgia Southern can also issue Eagle Cards remotely without the need to see students in-person or print and mail physical cards, creating a safer, more cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly process.

“I’m excited about the enhanced experience the mobile credential will bring to our students,” said Ron Stalnaker, Vice President of Business and Finance at Georgia Southern University, “I know that the convenience of being able to use the Eagle Card on their smartphones will be a great benefit to our students and we’re very happy to be able to offer this service.”

“Having my ID on my Apple watch/iPhone has saved the day so many times! It takes the stress out of having to remember where my ID card is. No more digging it out of my wallet to swipe to open a door when my hands are full. Makes trips to The Galley super easy as well,” said Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus student Carson Myrick

Eagle Card on iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android phones is also protected by two-factor authentication to ensure only the student can access their account, even if someone else knows their password.

Georgia Southern University is home to more than 27,000 students learning throughout approximately 138 different degree programs. Our Armstrong Campus has over 5,100 students who live in residence halls or frequent campus as commuters. They can all take advantage of the Eagle Card Mobile ID and enjoy a contactless method of using daily products and services.

“Our deployment of mobile credentials not only provides innovative value add for our students but is a great opportunity for Georgia Southern to continue to serve as a leader in technology,” said Ashlea Anderson, Chief Information Officer at Georgia Southern University. To set up their mobile school ID, students must download the eAccounts app, authenticate with their university credentials, and then add their Eagle Card Mobile ID to Apple Wallet or Google Pay.  For more information, visit GeorgiaSouthern.edu/mobilecard.
