Eagle Leadership Program Honors 26 New Scholars
The Eagle Leadership Program, an 11-month leadership course designed for faculty and staff and led by Human Resources, honored 26 new scholars at the November capstone graduation.
Focused on developing leaders, creating an environment to promote University relations and collaboration among University leaders, the program began in 2009. Candidates are nominated by Georgia Southern’s divisional vice presidents for their dedication, leadership skills and potential professional growth.
Throughout the course, participants take part in the following topics and events:
· Employment Law
· High Impact Leadership
· Improving Communication Skills
· Practical Problem Solving and Decision Making
· Developing People: Coaching, Counseling, and Training
· Handling Conflict and Criticism and/or Building Trust and Teambuilding
· Personality and Leadership Traits
· Dealing with Difficult Personalities
· President’s Cabinet roundtable discussions
· Review Sessions
· Capstone Graduation
Recent graduates of the program had many positive comments to offer.
“The Eagle Leadership Program was a great experience to learn and discuss useful leadership tools and best practices with colleagues on campus,” says Matt Horst, associate director of Campus Recreation and Intramurals.
"The support from Dr. Keel and all the vice presidents really makes a strong statement about the value they place on the development of leadership at Georgia Southern University," says Bob Grogan, interim director of Information Technology for Business and Finance.
“The faculty provided a wealth of practical and applicable information to help me be more effective with my team and customers. I would highly recommend this program to others who are interested in leadership at Georgia Southern,” says Eleanor Haynes, research compliance officer.
“The Eagle Leadership Program has not only provided me with the tools and resources for being a more effective leader, but also has made me aware of methods I can utilize to encourage my students to be better leaders which will be essential in their future classrooms,” says Christine Draper, professor teaching and learning.
