Dr. Adewale Troutman to Present Fries Lecture
The 2013 Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series at Georgia Southern University will feature nationally known speaker, Dr. Adewale Troutman, president of the American Public Health Association, on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center, 847 Plant Drive. His presentation, “Health Equity and Social Justice, A Whole New World,” is free and open to everyone.
Troutman identifies himself through his commitment to social justice, human rights, community activism, health equity and national and global health. He has dedicated more than 40 years of work to advance the principles of universal freedoms and eliminate racism, injustice and oppression. His career has included clinical emergency medicine, hospital administration, academic and public health practice. Dr. Troutman has had multiple publications including What if We Were Equal, co-authored with former Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary of Health, Dr. David Satcher. He is featured in the nationally televised PBS series “Unnatural Causes; Is Inequality Making Us Sick? “
The Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series began in 2001. It is funded by an endowment in honor of the late Norman Fries, the founder of Claxton Poultry. In his more than 50 years in business, Fries built the company from a one-man operation into one of the largest poultry production plants in the United States. This year’s Fries Lecture is hosted by the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.
