Campus Community Invited to Reflector Magazine Release Party
The
party will begin at 8 p.m. A costume contest will be held by Gnat’s Landing
before the performance at 9:30 p.m., and a special performance from the Orange
Constant will begin at 10:30 p.m.
The Office of Student Media and the editors of the Reflector collaborated with writers from The George-Anne to create the fall 2013 issue. All of those who worked on this semester’s publication will be at the party to celebrate their hard work.
The Reflector is geared toward Georgia Southern students and features stories about students and the things they care most about, on and off campus. The magazine is released twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
Jennifer Currington, Reflector magazine’s editor, said, “I want this semester’s publication to be something that is reliable, something that people want to read, something that has interesting news, but is also heartfelt.”
In this semester’s issue, many stories reflect the current times and issues on and off of Georgia Southern’s campus. A question and answer section is devoted to the many Georgia Southern social media parody accounts, including the @GSUProblems administrator, as well as others like @NotBrooksKeel. Stories that the staff at Student Media worked on also include statistics on thefts from the Recreation Activity Center and even a spread on campus fashion.
“There are many things that students, faculty, staff and even alumni can enjoy reading. The beauty of this magazine is that it often encompasses many stories that you might have read briefly about in The George-Anne, but the magazine allows our writers to go beyond the surface. The stories are longer and have more details,” Marissa Martin, marketing manager of Student Media, said.
The University community is encouraged to come out and meet the group of students that put together this important collection of history. The event will include entertainment, and of course Halloween festivities to enjoy with the staff.
