Multicultural Student Center Celebrates Black History Month
To commemorate Black History Month, the Multicultural Student Center is hosting events this February. Free and open to the campus community, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.
Diversity Speaker Series: Dr. F. Erik Brooks
“Pursuing A Promise: A History of African Americans at Georgia Southern
University”
Thursday, Feb. 20
7 p.m., Russell Union Ballroom
Dr. Erik Brooks, professor and Chair of the Department of African-American Studies at Western Illinois University, will be discussing his 2006 book, Pursuing A Promise: A History Of African Americans At Georgia Southern University, which recounted the struggles and hardships faced by African-Americans when integrating the schooling systems of the South in general, and Georgia Southern University in particular. Dr. Brooks taught political science and public administration at Georgia Southern from 2002 to 2012.
