Garden of the Coastal Plain Offers “Edible Landscaping and Fruit Orchards” Lunch and Learn
As part of the Garden of the Coastal Plain’s “The Future of Food” 2014 lunch and learn series, students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge on new varieties of fruit trees and shrubs developed especially for southeast Georgia’s hot climate.
On Thursday, March 13, Bill Wenz, outside sales representative of Wise Nursery, will lead the session, “Edible Landscaping and Fruit Orchards,” discussing landscape design and edible plants.
“Bill is a regional guru who knows all there is to know about the edible plants and fruit trees that will do well here in south Georgia,” said Carolyn Altman, director of the Garden of the Coastal Plain. “He's also something of a surfer dude and rock star whose enthusiasm and love for his subject makes learning really fun. From plum trees to citrus to jujube trees, Bill can give you the low down on getting a leg up on a great and productive garden.”
Participants will learn about what
sort of plants might solve their unique situations, such as “what can I grow on
my apartment balcony?” “Which are the low-maintenance edibles? “What sorts
of edibles produce in the shade?” and learn the basics of making the most of
their home gardens.
Paid reservations are required. The event will be held at
the Garden of the Coastal Plain, 1505 Bland Ave., under the Heritage Pavilion
from Noon – 1 p.m. Tickets are $20, including a topic-inspired lunch prepared
by Chef Kevin Case, executive chef of catering, Eagle Dining Services. To
reserve your spot, register online or call 912-871-1149.
