Eagle Showcase: Excellence in Service-Learning to take place April 14
April 13, 2017
Georgia Southern’s Office of Leadership and Community Engagement (OLCE), along with the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, will co-host the inaugural Eagle Showcase: Excellence in Service-Learning on Friday, April 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Williams Center.
"The Showcase is an opportunity for students and faculty to share their significant scholarly experiences in service-learning,” said Todd Deal, executive director and leadership studies professor in the OLCE. “It will highlight the tremendous work of our students as they apply their academic disciplines in service to our community.”
According to Georgia Southern’s mission statement, “The University’s hallmark is a culture of engagement that bridges theory with practice, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom and promotes students growth and life success.” In keeping with the mission, students and faculty contribute to the University and community through numerous service-learning activities.
This drop-in event will showcase and celebrate such contributions through posters and videos of student service-learning activities.
“Service-learning is one of the Association of American Colleges & Universities’ high-impact educational practices. I am delighted to say it is extensively used in a variety of disciplines across our campus,” Deal said. “During the Showcase, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with these young scholars who have invested their minds and their lives in service to our community."
