Aileen Tang joins Eagle Nation as new director of the Office of Global Engagement

Hailing from Texas Tech University, Aileen Tang joined Georgia Southern University in April as the new director of the Office of Global Engagement.
Tang knows firsthand the transformative power of international education. From 2012 to 2013, she began her academic career in the United States as a visiting professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on a J-1 Visa.
“It was an unforgettable experience for me,” she explains. “Not only did it introduce me to the subtleties of the American higher education system, but it also immersed me in the vibrant and diverse culture of the United States.”
As a J-1 scholar, she was able to gain a deeper insight into the local community and developed a deep appreciation for the traditions, values and connections that define American life – an experience that continues to shape and inspire her work. Following her time in Illinois, Tang moved to the United States full-time, taking a position at the University of Arkansas and later at Texas Tech.
Originally from Sichuan, China, Tang brings with her a wealth of international experience. She holds her graduate degree in English language and literature, and spent 18 years teaching English to university students at Jiangsu University of Technology. That time sparked her lifelong passion for working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and supporting their educational journeys.
“Aileen brings a great deal of experience in working with and implementing creative exchange and visitor programs that require complex visa initiatives,” said Danielle Smith, director of Experiential Learning & Corporate Relations at the Parker College of Business. “She has a track record of strong follow-through and is well-versed in both the interests of students and needs of faculty to support all populations of a university campus. I’m looking forward to seeing how global education at Georgia Southern will evolve under her leadership.”
Beyond her work supporting students, Tang’s professional background highlights excellence in immigration compliance, visa processes, strategic planning and policy development, team building, international office and governmental liaising, and budget management. She also holds a Google Program Management certificate and has successfully led and coordinated complex initiatives, strengthening her skills in leadership and strategic planning while at Texas Tech.
“She hit the ground running,” said Dustin Anderson, associate provost for student success at Georgia Southern. “Aileen has already met with many of the office’s stakeholders and is excited about expanding that circle. She is a wonderful addition to the Academic Affairs team.”
Outside of work, Tang is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, biking and road trips. A passionate traveler, she finds joy in meeting new people, exploring different cultures and building meaningful connections with individuals from all walks of life.
