Education Under Fire Panel Discussion April 26
Georgia Southern University’s Amnesty
International chapter, the Bahá’í Faith of Statesboro and the Multicultural
Student Center are co-sponsoring a diversity panel discussion and screening of
the film “Education Under Fire” on Thursday, April 26 from 7 – 9
p.m. in the Russell Union Theater.What if you were forbidden to obtain a university
education and your professors were not allowed to teach you? The “Education
Under Fire” film and panel discussion will stimulate a conversation about the
universal human right of education and its denial to minorities in Iran,
especially Baha'i students. The panel, moderated by Dr. Debra Sabia, features
two Iranian Bahá’ís, Evaz Fanaian and Nasrin Rouhani, sharing personal
testimonies. Christian minister Dr. Francys Johnson and College of Education
professor Dr. Dan Rea, will provide brief critiques of the Iranian government’s
discriminatory policies. Nobel laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President
Hose Ramos-Horta, have endorsed the “Education Under Fire” program, which has
already been presented at 120 universities across the United States. We hope

conversation about the importance of protecting the universal human right to
education for all people.
