Dining Commons Ribbon Cutting Thursday
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place to celebrate the new Dining Commons located next to The University Store on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. The University community is cordially invited to attend the event, and tour the new facility.
Dining Commons is Georgia Southern University’s new main dining facility and home to the Eagle Card Center and Postal and Printing Services. The structure replaces the former Landrum Center, which served the Georgia Southern community from 1966 to 2012.
The building boasts nearly 75,000 square feet, including 54,000 square feet of dining and kitchen space. It will have the ability to seat 1,100 customers. Seven individual serveries will be located throughout, where guests can experience international food, brick oven pizza, a full bakery, Mongolian grill and even a gluten-free station.
The $18.4 million project was built as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building by Juneau Construction of Atlanta. It was designed by Cogdell & Mendrala Architects of Savannah, along with Cooper Carry Architects of Atlanta.
Located on the first floor, the newly combined Postal and Printing Services will remain the location for all campus and student mail. The Eagle Card Center, housed in Russell Union for years, is also located on the first floor of the building. The second floor includes office space for staff and meeting rooms for various personnel within Auxiliary Services.
No state funds were used to build this facility.
Immediately following the ribbon cutting, Georgia Southern University will host the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours, which is open to everyone.
