Workshops & Open Groups
Workshops and open groups are for any Georgia Southern student! You do not need to be a current client of the Counseling Center in order to attend. All workshops are completely free. Please check each workshop or group’s location and modality; some workshops are in-person on a particular campus, some are online, and others might have a hybrid option. You do not need to attend every week; these are designed so you can drop in any week that you are interested and available!
In order to be respectful of all who choose to attend, video and/or audio recording is not allowed under any circumstances (class assignments, news articles, etc.).

Finding OUR Wings is a space designed for minority students who may feel out of place or disconnected in a larger campus community. Ever felt like you’re navigating campus without a clear place to land? Are you new to campus and struggling to find where you fit? You’re not alone. Finding OUR Wings offers a supportive environment to explore personal identity, build connection, and strengthen a sense of belonging. Through meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and practical strategies, students will discover how to stay true to who they are while navigating new and unfamiliar spaces. If you’re looking for a community where you can grow, be heard, and soar, why not start here? Participants are not required to be a client of the Counseling Center as this workshop is free and open to all students. We meet in OMA Conference Room (Room 2015) in the Williams Center on Statesboro campus!
Graduate Student Support Group

This group provides a safe and confidential space in which to share your experiences and concerns related to being a graduate student. Themes discussed include managing stress, balancing work and self-care, attending to relationships, managing perfectionism and the internal critic, imposter syndrome, and fostering resilience. Participants are welcome to come together for one hour, drop-in weekly meetings that are free and open to all students. This support group meets in the Interdisciplinary Academic Building (IAB) Room 2032 on the Statesboro campus.
LGBTQ+ Support Space

The LGBTQ+ Support Space provides a venue for students to connect and share about experiences as gender, sexual, and/or relationship diverse individuals at Georgia Southern University. This will be a space to discuss relevant issues and to process information and skills to navigate these lived experiences. Participants are welcome to come together for one hour, drop-in weekly meetings that are free and open to all students. This support space meets on Wednesdays at 2 PM on Statesboro (IAB Room 2001) and on Thursdays at 3 PM on Armstrong (Armstrong Counseling Center).
Managing Grief and Loss

This workshop is a supportive space for you to be able to work through grief, whether that is loss of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, or a major life change. We will provide a space to get emotional support, learn practical coping strategies, and to explore the often-conflicting thoughts, feelings, and memories related to a loss. This free workshop is open to all Georgia Southern students! No registration required. This workshop is at the Statesboro campus at the Counseling Center, and is free and open to all students. Come to the Counseling Center at 4 PM on Wednesdays and check in at the front desk.
Mindfulness Workshop

The mindfulness workshop will teach you about mindfulness and how to incorporate mindful practices into your daily life. Mindfulness is helpful for ADHD, depression, anxiety, stress, and improving the mind-body connection! During the workshop we will practice a variety of different exercises that you can then use on your own time. This is a free workshop that is open to all Georgia Southern students and no registration is required. Check in at the front desk of the counseling center on the Statesboro campus Wednesdays at 3pm.

Sometimes the biggest obstacle to self-care is simply making the time to do it! Join us for a weekly scheduled time dedicated for intentional self-care practice. Each week we will practice a new self-care activity ranging from creative activities to mindful activities and everything in-between! This workshop is in person at the Henderson Library on Tuesdays from 1:15 PM to 2:45 PM. This workshop is free and open to all Georgia Southern Students.

This workshop seeks to unify Black women by creating a safe space that encourages courageous conversations. We hope to give voice to the emotions you or others may have silenced. The workshop may discuss general topics such as relationships, boundaries, spirituality, belongingness, sexuality, discrimination, and success through the lens of a Black woman. This group will meet in person every Monday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in Williams Center Room 2015 on Statesboro and every Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Armstrong Counseling Center. While this workshop will focus on the experiences of Black women; It is free and open to all students.

Need a little extra boost in the ways you are managing your life? Every other Thursday, starting January 16th, we will be teaching topics related to communication/relationship skills, emotional coping skills, and general life management skills to help you feel more confident in the way you are going about your days. Topics discussed and dates of this workshop are available on the Counseling Center’s website. This workshop will be in person at the Statesboro Counseling Center every other week on Thursdays from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. See flier for dates!
