Parking Rules and Violations


General Rules

NOTE: Rules 2 through 8 are enforced 24 hours, 7 days a week.

  1. When you purchase your permit for a specific lot, you are to park your vehicle in that specific lot unless notified otherwise. Meaning if you purchase a lot 21 permit you should park in lot 21. However, any vehicle may park in any designated commuter or faculty/staff lot from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Individual reserved parking spaces like ADA (disabled-handicapped), Dean, VP, Service & Delivery.
  2. The parking lot for the Henderson Library is reserved for Faculty/Staff between 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  3. Parking on all campus streets shall be to the right with the flow of traffic, except for motorcycles and all other two-wheeled motor vehicles in which these vehicles should park in marked areas designated for two-wheeled motor vehicles and in hatched areas of the parking lot except for handicapped spaces.
  4. Stopping, standing or parking in prohibited zones will be fined and/or towed at the owner’s expense. These areas include:
    • medians and/or curbs
    • driveways
    • crosshatched safety zones
    • disabled parking spaces
    • walkways
    • bike lanes
    • service and delivery zones
    • entranceways
    • grassy areas
    • athletic fields

  6. Parking automobiles or trucks in spaces designated for “motorcycles only” is prohibited and parking motorcycles or other two-wheeled vehicles in spaces not designated for motorcycles is prohibited.
  7. Permission to park in areas designated as “Reserved Parking” must be authorized by the Parking and Transportation Office.
  8. Do not park in front of trash cans or dumpsters. Vehicles parked in this manner are subject to fines and/or towing at the owner’s expense.
  9. Residential Parking Permits are required at all times in residence hall parking lots. Residence hall lots are enforced 24/7.

Disabled Vehicles

If your vehicle becomes disabled and cannot be moved, call the Parking & Transportation Office at 912-478-7275 immediately. We will add your vehicle to the Disabled Vehicle Log and you will be given 24 hours to have it moved. On weekends and after 5 p.m., call Public Safety at 912-478-5234.

Permit Violations

1.4: Multiple permit vehicles parking concurrently on campus: $30

1.5: No current/valid permit: $35

1.8: Knowingly falsifying information on parking permit application (second offense lead to the loss of parking privileges): $50

Parking Violations

2.1: Parking in no parking zones as marked by signage or pavement markings: $30

2.2: Backed in or pulled through a space, or parked against flow of traffic lane adjacent to space: $25 (First Citation is a $0 warning)

2.3: Parking overtime in area where time limit is posted during restricted hours: $20

2.4: Not parked within a marked space (unmarked areas in a lot, on grass, etc.): $30

2.5: Blocking or obstructing traffic, street, dumpster, sidewalk, fire hydrant, building entrance or exit or another vehicle: $30

2.6: Parking in unauthorized area or outside permit location: $30

2.8: Unauthorized parking in disabled space: $50, then $100

2.9: Parking over the line / encroaching of the next space: $10

3.0: Unauthorized parking in a reserved space: $30

3.1: Stopping, standing or parking where prohibited: $30

3.5: Parking in a Fire Line: $50

NOTE: Also subject to be towed at owner’s expense.

Property Violations

3.3: Tampering with an immobilization device: $50
