About Dr. Mathews

Dr. Benjamin Mathews is the Gretsch Distinguished Scholar in Guitar and Music Industry at Georgia Southern University. He is a guitarist, songwriter, and producer from Los Angeles with experience performing across the nation and recording for many studio, television, and film projects. He has been an on-camera instructor, in-studio quality control representative, and backing track producer for the groundbreaking Fender Play online learning platform. Ben performs regularly on guitar and bass guitar in a wide range of styles. He also enjoys playing the cuban tres, mandolin, and other fretted instruments. 

Ben holds a DMA in Studio Guitar Performance from University of Southern California, with emphases in Music Teaching and Learning, Pop Songwriting, and Music Technology. He also earned a Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brigham Young University – Idaho. He has also taught music classes at University of Southern California, Indiana University, Utah State University, Brigham Young University – Idaho, and College of Southern Idaho.
