Georgia Southern Senior Wins First Place at ASME IMECE2024 Undergraduate Expo for Groundbreaking Insulin Delivery Research

Madison Procyk, a senior mechanical engineering major in Georgia Southern University’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, won first place at the International American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) IMECE2024 Undergraduate Expo Poster competition in Portland, Oregon. She represented Georgia Southern University exceptionally well on an international stage.
“I am incredibly proud of Madison’s achievement. However, what makes her accomplishment even more special is the independence and confidence she displayed throughout this journey. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring many students who have achieved recognition at international, national, and state levels. Typically, I’ve been able to attend these events to offer my support and guidance when needed. However, this year, I couldn’t accompany Madison to ASME IMECE2024,” said Sevki Cesmeci, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Madison’s research advisor. “She did an incredible job representing Georgia Southern University on an international stage.”
Madison’s research focuses on insulin delivery systems for people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Dr. Cesmeci served as the principal investigator of the project, which was funded by a $200k grant from the global BreakthroughT1D (formerly JRDF) research and advocacy organization.
In recognition of her achievement, Madison received a certificate of recognition and a $500 monetary award.
