Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is an employee supplemental educational assistance program. Please refer to the Board of Regents website for the complete TAP policy for more detailed information.
TAP is available to all full-time, benefits-eligible employees who have worked at the University for at least six (6) months before the TAP application deadline. Enrollment is granted on a space-available basis.
What TAP Covers
- Tuition: Up to nine (9) credit hours per semester at the in-state per-credit-hour rate.
- Mandatory fees (excluding lab fees, course fees, books, fines, exam fees, etc.).
- Online and professional graduate courses through the University System of Georgia (fees still apply).
What TAP Does Not Cover
- Admissions application fees
- Institution mandated fees including lab fees, course fees, exam fees, testing fees, graduation fees, etc.
- Books or other required materials for a course
- Fines
- Audited courses (only courses taken for credit are eligible).
How to Submit Your TAP Application
- Staff submit to Human Resources

- Faculty submit to the Office of the Provost
- email your application to hcarroll@georgiasouthern.edu.
Forms to Submit
Application Deadlines
The following University System of Georgia TAP application deadlines will apply to all University System of Georgia institutions (If any of these dates fall on a holiday or on a weekend, the application deadline will be the last business day prior to the dates identified.)
- Fall Semester – July 15th
- Spring Semester – November 15th
- Summer Semester – April 15th
Applications are due by 5pm on the day of the application deadline.
Eligibility & Requirements
Grade Requirements
- Employees must earn a grade of “C” or better in each approved TAP course.
- Grades are verified by the Teaching Institution TAP Coordinator.
- Employees who receive a “D” or below will be ineligible for TAP the following semester. However, they are not required to repay tuition.
- Employees who receive an “Incomplete” must complete the coursework and submit their final grade by the end of the next semester to remain eligible.
Approvals
- Faculty: Approval is required from the Department Chair, Dean, and Provost/VPAA.
- Staff: Approval is required from the Supervisor, Dean/Director, and HR TAP Coordinator.
- Employees are encouraged to take classes outside of work hours. If not possible, with supervisor approval:
- Non-exempt employees must maintain a 40-hour workweek.
- Exempt employees must maintain their workload to their supervisor’s satisfaction.
Financial Aid & Tax Information
- Scholarships & Grants
- All scholarships and grants must be applied before receiving a TAP waiver.
- Employees eligible for Pell Grants must apply them before TAP covers tuition/fees.
- If grants/scholarships equal or exceed the TAP benefit, no TAP waiver will be applied.
- Remaining Balances: Any unpaid balance must be paid by the fee payment deadline each semester to avoid course cancellation.
