Hungarian State Folk Ensemble to Perform at PAC
Folk music and acrobatic dances will
take center stage at Georgia Southern’s Performing Arts Center (PAC), 847 Plant
Drive, when the University welcomes the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble to campus
on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets remain on sale for the performance of
“Hungarian Rhapsody.”
Established in 1951, the Hungarian
State Folk Ensemble aimed to collect and play authentic folk music and to
preserve the folk dances, music and traditional costumes of the 1,000 year old
culture. As a musical genre, the rhapsody is best characterized by its
tumultuous rhythms, strong emotion, impassioned surges of thought and freedom
of expression. “Hungarian Rhapsody” incorporates all the hallmarks, taking its
inspiration from folk music and dance traditions and creating its own unique
dance rhapsody. The Ensemble has performed before more than seven million
people in 44 countries.
Admission is $10 for students, $20
for faculty and staff and $24 for patrons. Tickets may be purchased online by
visiting GeorgiaSouthern.edu/pac or at the
PAC box office from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
