First Shots – Try Pistol is a great introductory course for families, youth or anyone that is unsure
about shooting a firearm. Participants will learn basic firearm safety and proper use of a
semi-automatic .22 pistol while giving them the confidence and information needed to
safely and successfully shoot on their own. An emphasis will be placed on introductory
materials such as parts of the gun, operation of a semi-automatic pistol, proper grip,
how to aim and how to safely load and unload to perform a clearance check. Range
time will consist of putting together all the basics to shoot 25 rounds with a .22 pistol. A
pistol will be provided for the class. A target, hearing and eye protection will also be
provided for your use as well as take home. At the completion of the course, the
participant will have successfully completed the practical requirement for their SSEC
firearms membership.
