First Shots – Try Rifle is a great introductory course for families, youth or anyone that is unsure about
shooting a firearm. Participants will learn basic firearm safety and proper use of a .22
rifle while giving them the confidence and information needed to safely and successfully
shoot on their own. An emphasis will be placed on introductory materials such as parts
of the gun, operation of a bolt action and AR platform, proper grip, how to aim and how
to safely load and unload. Range time will consist of putting together all the basics to
shoot 25 rounds of .22 LR with a .22 rifle that will be provided. A target, hearing and eye
protection will also be provided.

A sample of what to expect in this class:

  • Firearms Safety Rules
  • SSEC Regulations
  • Parts of the gun
  • Operation of a bolt action & AR platform .22 rifle
  • Grip, Stance, Aim
  • Guided live fire and range time

Note: This course is very similar to the Rifle 101 course except the .22 LR rifles will be
used.

Participants in this First Shots program will be provided an opportunity to receive a $25 coupon after completing the course and a survey provided by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
