Graduate Assistant Placement Program

The Division of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration graduate program, will be hosting the 4th annual Graduate Assistantship Placement Program (GAPP) Interview Day in Spring 2025. Interview Days are Thursday, March 27 and
Friday, March 28, 2025 between 8 am and 5 pm, but are subject to change.

GAPP helps recruit and match prospective graduate students interested in a career in higher education, student personnel services, student development, or a closely related field with the multitude of departments that make up the Division of Student Affairs and other departments across the university that are considered traditional student services. GAPP is dedicated to the personal and professional growth of future higher education professionals and other participants who desire to work in dynamic environments centered around student affairs/student services.

The Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies requires that graduate students be fully admitted into a graduate program prior to receiving employment/assistantship offers.

Who Should Register for GAPP?

GAPP is open to all current or prospective Georgia Southern students who are seeking a graduate assistantship. Prospective students must be fully admitted to Georgia Southern in order to participate in the interview process. Student candidates can be enrolled in any graduate level academic program. Candidates enrolled in the Master of Education in Higher Education Administration graduate program are prioritized with interview offers and subsequent assistantship offers. If you have a love and desire to work with students as a career or simply during an assistantship experience, registering for GAPP is a good place to start your journey. The departments who hire for GAPP stem from the Divisions of Student Affairs, Enrollment, Marketing, and Student Success, Inclusive Excellence, Auxiliary Services, and others.

If you are an incoming student to Georgia Southern or a current students who may be changing academic programs, please consult with your academic program to ensure you are able to pursue a graduate assistantship while in your program of study.  See this College of Graduate Studies resource under the “Eligibility” tab for additional information.

Process

The GAPP Interview Day will be a hybrid experience in which the candidate can choose to interview via Zoom or in person at either of our campuses in Statesboro or Savannah. Either option weighs equally in a candidate’s experience with a hiring department. This approach is being done to accommodate those students who may not being able to travel and accommodate those who desire to. During the registration process, candidates can choose the types of functional areas they are interested in interviewing for within the registration form. Employers from various departments will screen all applications and determine which candidates they would like to schedule an interview with. Candidates will be notified about which departments are interested in setting up an interview. Additional process notes include:

  • This experience is a matching process in which candidates who are interviewing will be matched with a department/position they interviewed with and that is also deemed the best fit based on the candidate desires and the department needs.
  • Candidates who are offered an assistantship will only receive one offer based on the interviews held. It is possible for a candidate to not receive an offer based on trying to match candidate and hiring department ranking preferences.
  • Candidates are highly encouraged to give their best on every interview and convey to hiring departments their passion and interest in those areas.
  • A detailed schedule is listed below to keep you informed of each stage of the process.

Students who register for for GAPP will be initially screened to ensure a close match between participating departments and previous/current work experiences/career goals. Not all candidates may receive an interview based on this criteria in addition to having limited interview time slots during the GAPP Interview Days. Students will be informed about their status as soon as possible prior to the Interview Day.
