The George-Anne Media Group was the sole winner of the 2024 Pacemaker award for Innovation.

The Pacemakers, awarded by Associated Collegiate Press, are considered the highest honors in college media.

The George-Anne Media Group was named the winner of the 2024 innovation award for their Vertical Monitor project, which involved mounting and placing vertical video monitors in the student union of its Statesboro Campus and produced a 24/7 stream of video to engage students in person.

According to the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP), this Pacemaker “recognizes overall excellence and distinguishes the top student media produced during a particular school year. The Innovation Pacemaker is designed to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and reward student media for the courage to take chances to improve service to their customers, readers, and communities.”

ACP shared a press release announcing The George-Anne Media Group’s win. It reads in part:

“In September, six student media programs were named Pacemaker finalists. From those six finalists, the judges said one application packet stood out from the others.

“Collegiate student media is rapidly changing and those programs that don’t generate new revenue streams and innovative ways to deliver content to their readers will struggle to survive,” associate director Gary Lundgren said. “Print is now just one component — there is far more to a successful student media program than publishing the campus newspaper.”

The students named on the award include: Anna Claire Edenfield, Elise Taylor, Jordyn Mobley, Lorena Martinez, Peyton Siebert, Shaniya Anderson, Tyler Phillips, Vanessa Countryman, Kamila Gonzalez.
