Introducing ReusePass: A Sustainable Dining Solution at Georgia Southern

At Georgia Southern University, we are committed to sustainability and reducing waste. That’s why we are excited to introduce ReusePass, a reusable container program designed to make on-the-go dining more eco-friendly! Launching this semester, ReusePass will be available at all three residential dining halls: Dining Commons, Lakeside, and The Galley.

Soft Launch Begins March 3rd!

Starting Monday, March 3rd, students who have already downloaded their ReusePass QR code will be able to participate in our new reusable container program. If you haven’t downloaded your Pass yet, don’t worry! During the soft launch (March 3rd – March 23rd), students without a QR code will receive a disposable container along with instructions on how to sign up.

Then, on Monday, March 24th, we will officially switch to reusable containers only—disposable containers will no longer be available.

How ReusePass Works

  1. Get Started – All Access+ dining plan holders are automatically enrolled in ReusePass.
  2. Pick Up Your First Container – Visit the cashier stand at any residential dining hall.
  3. Fill & Go – Choose your meal, pack it in your reusable container, and enjoy your food wherever you like.
  4. Return & Swap – Rinse and return your container to receive a new one.
  5. One Per Day – You can use ReusePass for one meal per day. While you can return your container the same day, you must wait until the next day to receive a new one.
  6. Keep It Clean – Dining staff will not accept soiled containers.
  7. Lost Your Container? – A replacement fee of $8 will be charged for lost containers. At the end of the semester, all containers must be returned.

Food Safety Reminders

  • DO NOT MICROWAVE YOUR CONTAINER – The container itself is microwave-safe, but the RFID tag inside is not.
  • Keep Food Safe – Hot food should stay above 135°F, and cold food should be kept below 41°F.
  • Eat or Refrigerate Promptly – Food should be eaten or refrigerated within two hours, and any refrigerated leftovers should be consumed within three days.
  • Reheat Properly – Food must be reheated to at least 165°F and should only be reheated once before being discarded.

Looking Ahead

  • Phase 1 (March 3 – March 23): Soft launch with both reusable and disposable containers.
  • Phase 2 (March 24): Full transition to reusable containers only.
  • Phase 3 (TBD): Expansion to additional dining plan holders.

We’re thrilled to bring this sustainable dining option to Georgia Southern! Make sure to download your ReusePass QR code and get ready to join us in reducing waste.
