ReusePass Container Program

ReusePass at Georgia Southern
When you’re on the go, use ReusePass to grab something quick from our residential dining halls. Beginning Monday, March 3, we are launching a soft rollout of reusable containers at all three residential dining halls: Dining Commons, Lakeside, and The Galley. During this phase, reusable containers will be available to students who have already downloaded their ReusePass QR code. Students who have not yet downloaded their Pass will receive a disposable container along with instructions on how to sign up.

Starting Monday, March 24, disposable containers will no longer be available, and all to-go meals will be served exclusively in reusable containers.

How It Works

  • Enrollment: All Access+ dining plan holders are automatically enrolled in the ReusePass program and have access to Sustain Southern containers for to-go meals. Our NSF Certified, American-Made containers are provided through a partnership with Eagle Dining and Sustain Southern.
  • Pick Up: Retrieve your first reusable container at the cashier stand of any residential dining hall (Dining Commons, Lakeside, The Galley).
  • Use: Fill your container with your meal selections and take it with you to enjoy.
  • Return & Exchange: Rinse your empty container and return it to a cashier or designated return location to receive a new one.
  • One Meal Per Day: You may use ReusePass for one meal per day. While you can return a container on the same day, you may not receive another meal in a reusable container until the next day.
  • Clean Containers Only: Dining staff will turn away any user attempting to get food in a soiled container.
  • Non-Transferable: ReusePass privileges cannot be shared with another dining plan user.
  • Returning Containers: Containers must be returned in three (3) days before they are considered lost.
  • Replacement Fee: Lost containers will result in an $8 replacement fee. All containers must be returned at the end of the semester.
  • Misuse of the program may result in loss of privileges.

To-Go Program Roll-Out

  • Phase 1 (March 3 – March 23): Soft launch of reusable containers for students who have downloaded their ReusePass QR code.
  • Phase 2 (March 24): Full launch—disposable containers will no longer be provided, and all to-go meals will use reusable containers.
  • Phase 3 (TBD): Expansion of ReusePass to include additional dining plan holders.

Food Safety Guidelines

  • DO NOT MICROWAVE YOUR CONTAINER. While the container itself may be microwave-safe, the RFID tag inside contains metal and is not safe for microwaving.
  • Temperature Danger Zone (41°F – 135°F): Cold food should stay below 41°F, and hot food should remain above 135°F.
  • Consume Food Promptly: Food taken out should be consumed or refrigerated within two hours. Any refrigerated leftovers should be eaten or discarded within three days.
  • Discard Unsafe Food: If food has been in the Temperature Danger Zone for more than four hours, it must be discarded—even if reheated.
  • Reheating Guidelines: Reheated food must reach at least 165°F. Food should only be reheated once before being discarded.
