Overview
Statesboro has a census count of 34,944 but this doesn’t tell the whole story. Our city is the largest source of employment and shopping in Bulloch County (population 82,441). In addition, Statesboro is surrounded by smaller, rural counties with limited access to goods and services. These consumers travel to Statesboro for shopping, restaurants and doctor’s appointments.

In 2022, four advanced manufacturing companies announced plans to build new facilities in Bulloch County. These construction projects will total $897 million dollars and create 1,407 jobs. During the same year, Hyundai announced that their new $5.5 billion dollar facility would be located 38 miles from Statesboro and create 8,100 jobs.

Tormenta FC is a professional soccer team based in Statesboro and is part of USL League One. This division has teams in Santa Barbara, Charlotte and Windsor, CO. Tormenta Park is currently under expansion and will be part of a new mixed-use development that will include shopping, condos and a 14,000-person concert venue.

In December 2022, Publix held their grand opening of a new 48,000 square foot grocery store with a full-service pharmacy, bakery and deli.

Statesboro is home to three post-secondary education schools. Georgia Southern University, Ogeechee Technical College and East Georgia State College have a combined enrollment of over 20,000 students on their Statesboro campuses.
The Creek on the Blue Mile is a major revitalization in downtown Statesboro covering over 24 acres. This project will convert a stormwater drainage canal into a riverwalk area with new commercial and residential properties. This new development consists of public and private funds totaling over $68 million dollars.

The 2020 census shows a median household income of $32,790. The presence of over 20,000 post-graduate students incorrectly alters this number. Most of these students attend classes full-time and only have part-time employment or no employment at all. While this drives the average income lower, these students nonetheless make a significant contribution to the local economy and provide a valuable resource for businesses seeking part-time employees.

Manufacturing Growth
On May 20, 2022, Hyundai announced their intention to build a new electric vehicle assembly plant at the Joint Development Authority site on I-16. Located only 38 miles from Statesboro, this $5.5 billion dollar site will create 8,100 jobs and be operational by 2025. During the same year, four other companies announced plans to build new advanced manufacturing facilities in Bulloch County for an additional 1,407 new jobs and $897 million in new construction.

- Statesboro is home to three Post-Secondary schools that, together, have over 20,000 students in the city of Statesboro. College sporting events hosted by these schools and various gatherings like graduations and convocations bring additional visitors to the city.
- Events hosted in the city like our professional soccer team, rodeos at the Agricultural Complex and Splash in the Boro water park draw visitors from the surrounding counties. The Mill Creek sports complex also hosts regional youth league sports tournaments.
- Our regional medical center is a valuable resource for Statesboro and the surrounding area. Specialized medical practices associated with the hospital – including cardiologists, pediatricians, and oral surgeons – have offices in the city and serve patients from the entire region.
- The completion of the 24 acre, $68 million dollar riverwalk mixed-use development will be a major draw for Statesboro. This project will add commercial and residential space to our downtown area and improve the existing green space.

Georgia Southern University
Georgia Southern University is a public research institution offering 141 different academic majors at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. Its largest, 900 acre campus is located in Statesboro and the university has a regional economic impact of over $1 Billion. Georgia Southern’s 2022 enrollment was 17,738 undergraduate students.
Georgia Southern University contributed over $1 Billion in direct economic impact to our region. This represents a 7.4% year-over-year increase. GSU’s presence in Statesboro creates jobs on and off the campus and promotes consumer spending for a wide variety of businesses in the area.
Ogeechee Technical College
Ogeechee Technical College awards associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit in a number of career tracks. OTC also offers continuing educations classes, adult literacy programs, and GED exam prep. OTC’s 2022 enrollment was 2,045 students.
East Georgia State College

Real Estate

Statesboro is experiencing strong growth driven by new industries, increasing population, and the presence of three post secondary education institutions. We are also a regional draw for several surrounding counties whose residents travel to Statesboro for employment and shopping. A variety of real estate products are available to choose from. The West District
Located in downtown Statesboro, The West District is a mixed used development that offers retail, offices, loft apartments and a convention center.

Both U.S. Highway 301 and Georgia Highway 80 run through Statesboro. I-16 can be accessed via two on-ramps.

The city of Statesboro began a public bus system in January 2023. It has two fixed routes operating across an East/West and North/South line. The city will also offer a flex service to provide a pick-up option away from usual stops.

Future Projects and Citations
Hyundai Plant
In 2022, Hyundai will break ground on a new electric vehicle plant 38 miles from Statesboro in Bryant County. The $5.5 billion dollar facility will bring 8,100 new jobs to the area. Parts suppliers will also be building their own plants close to the Hyundai campus. These new operations will create hundreds of jobs, many of them located in Bulloch County.

Aspen Aerogels
Aspen Aerogels, a maker of insulation used in electric vehicle batteries, is constructing a $325 million facility that will create more than 250 advanced manufacturing jobs.

Revalyu Resources
Revalyu Resources, an environmentally friendly recycling company, will invest $50 million in a new plastic recycling facility in Bulloch county. Ecoplastic Corporation is the second Hyundai supplier to announce plans for a new plant in Bulloch county. The auto parts manufacturer will invest approximately $205 million in the facility and will create 456 new jobs.
