Mission Statement

Mission Statement
At Georgia Southern University, the Lab Safety & Industrial Hygiene Team is committed to establishing and sustaining a proactive culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship that empowers our entire research community—faculty, doctoral candidates, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff—to achieve excellence in funded research, innovation, and discovery.

As Georgia Southern advances its standing as a research-intensive institution, we partner across campuses to identify, evaluate, and mitigate hazards in all teaching, research, and creative spaces. Through evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, continuous education, and collaborative engagement, we safeguard people, preserve resources, and enable world-class scholarship.

Our goal is to foster research environments where creativity thrives because safety and hygiene are integral—not obstacles—to the pursuit of knowledge, competitive external grants, and doctoral program success.

Vision Statement
Our vision is to embed safety, health, and environmental responsibility into the very fabric of Georgia Southern University’s research and teaching culture. We strive to ensure that every laboratory, field site, and creative space reflects our shared commitment to excellence—where safety is not a requirement to meet, but a value we live.

By integrating safety into research design, training, mentorship, and daily operations, we aim to create a model academic environment that supports innovation, competitiveness in external funding, and the development of future scholars and doctoral researchers prepared to lead safely and ethically in their disciplines.
