Whether inquiring about getting started in writing proposals for funding or needing additional support while crafting budgets, the Research Advocates are available to answer questions, guide processes, and direct project inquiries across the Office of Research. In addition to expanding professional development offerings to target proposal planning and preparation, the Research Advocates work one-on-one with faculty to support them in the pre-award stages of research development.

Dr. Shainaz Landge
Dr. Shainaz Landge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics. She completed her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and then moved on to a postdoctoral position at Dartmouth College (NH). Dr. Landge’s research interests are in the areas of synthetic organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and chemistry education. She has been an active leader in the promotion of undergraduate research. She has pioneered and is the Director of the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program at GS. Her collaboration with Statesboro schools focuses on creating curiosity about research in high school students through the Promoting a Rural Essential and Sustainable STEM (PRESS) project. She spearheaded the Remote Mentoring of Undergraduate Research Students (ReMentURS) program through Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG) grant during COVID-19. She established and led the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) program called Incorporation of Freshmen in Research for Early Experience (iFREE) at the college (COSM) level. Dr. Landge is currently funded by the Georgia Research Alliance, Georgia Foundation for Public Education, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. At GS, she has been part of various funded grants (internal and external), resulting in more than 2 million dollars resulting in numerous publications, book chapters, and a patent. Dr. Landge is an active Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) member and an editorial board member for the international IJSoTL journal. She is also on the editorial board of Current Microwave Chemistry and is the topic editor for Chemosensors. Her active involvement is seen at the community front (high schools, library); state level (USG programs); regional level American Chemical Society (ACS) meetings; and at the national level America Association of Chemistry Teachers/ACS –program, national grants panels; national science bowl. She has been the recipient of various teaching, student success, collaboration, and research awards at the college, university, and state levels. She currently serves as a Provost Faculty Fellow (PFF) in Research (2024) at Georgia Southern (GS) University. Through this fellowship, she wants to support faculty research and promote the planning and dissemination of the annual event at Georgia Southern Student Scholars Symposium (GS4).
