Green Office Certification

About:

The Green Office Certification program is designed to help employees at Georgia Southern integrate sustainable practices into the workplace and daily operations. By earning a certification, your office reflects a commitment to operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and community integrity.

Participating in our Green Office Certification program is a meaningful way to show your commitment to sustainability, community, and continuous improvement. Here’s what your team can gain:

Make a real impact: Small changes in office habits, from reducing energy use to smarter purchasing, can add up to a big difference. Your office can help the university reach its environmental goals and contribute to a more sustainable campus.

Lead by example: Certified offices demonstrate leadership and integrity by aligning everyday operations with the university’s sustainability values. Whether you’re already green or just getting started, your participation shows others what’s possible.

Strengthen team engagement: The certification process encourages collaboration and boosts morale. It’s a chance for your team to work together toward a shared goal, reflect on current practices, and celebrate successes.

Earn recognition: Certified offices receive official recognition, digital badges for email and websites, and the chance to be featured on the Sustain Southern website and communications. It’s an achievement you can share with students, visitors, and peers!

First, assign an “Office Sustainability Liaison” within your office/department. This will be the person responsible for completing the application and coordinating with Sustain Southern.

Next, review the Green Office Handbook and attend a quick review meeting with Sustain Southern. Email sustainability@georgiasouthern.edu to schedule your meeting.

Then, complete and submit the Green Office Certification Application. Begin on the “Read Me” page of the spreadsheet and follow the instructions there to complete and submit your application.

Once the application is complete, email it to sustainability@georgiasouthern.edu. A Sustain Southern representative will contact you to provide additional information and/or clarify any details.

An office walkthrough is required as a follow up to your first application, and when applying for “Soaring High.” A Sustain Southern representative will contact you to schedule your walkthrough.
